Best known for its salt-splashed fun fair and classic seaside appeal, Bridlington’s Old Town has such a time-honoured feel to it that filming crews barely need to dress it up to recreate scenes from yesteryear. And so it was perfect for the 2016 feature film version of Dad’s Army. It also features in the last episode of Last Tango in Halifax season five.

If you’re visiting, the long sandy beach is the big draw. From the pre-Roman harbour, you can take boat trips around the bay and the nearby Bempton Cliffs Nature Reserve is a bird-watching goldmine, home to around half a million seabirds between March and October, including puffins.
