Ripon Racecourse

The medieval market town of Ripon has a long history of horse racing, and in episode 3 of the new All Creatures Great and Small the racecourse appears in a scene where senior veterinarian Siegfried Farnon attends to an injured race horse. You can stream the series so far on My5 or catch up with the latest episode on Sundays at 6pm on Channel 5. You can catch the rest of the series on Tuesdays at 9pm on Channel 5.

The first recorded events in Ripon took place in the 1660s and in 1723 the town made history when it held the first ever race for female jockeys. The current semi-rural racecourse has been a beloved local landmark since 1900 and races are still held here April to September.
