The explosive story of British secret-service officer Katharine Gun (played by Keira Knightley) was destined for the big screen. Set in the run-up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, and based on the book The Spy Who Tried to Stop a War, Official Secrets is a rollercoaster of leaked top-secret documents, of government cover-ups and one woman’s brave quest to change the course of history. Although the high-profile feature film moves between Cheltenham, London, Iraq and Washington DC, it was in fact filmed across the north of England and especially in Yorkshire, thanks to investment from Screen Yorkshire. Bradford, Leeds and Boston Spa all make an appearance, as does Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. Alongside Keira Knightley, Official Secrets also stars Ralph Fiennes, Adam Bakri, Matt Smith, Rhys Ifans and Matthew Goode.
