Yorkshire’s country pubs (and their malty local ales) are legendary, so finding the right one to play The Drovers Arms in All Creatures Great and Small was all-important. The Devonshire on Grassington’s town square really looks the part with its hodge-podge of windows set into a traditional Yorkshire stone facade, and it features throughout the new Channel 5 series as the exterior of the pub where James Herriot has his initiation into Darrowby village life.
Fun fact: during filming, The Devonshire also provided green rooms for the cast (and the animals for the village show days!). The inn’s guest rooms even housed several of the crew and were the location used to feed the crew for the reconnaissance visits, making it an essential stop off in the Yorkshire Dales National Park for any show fans.
