Bramham Park

Bramham Park

Somewhere between Baroque and Palladian in style, Bramham Park near Wetherby is a unique example of classical architecture from the very end of the 17th century. Part of ITV’s Victoria series was filmed here, as well as the Oscar-winning 2017 film Darkest Hour, starring Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill. Most recently, it featured as the exterior of Skelfer House in the BBC historical drama Gentleman Jack.

The house, constructed of magnesian limestone ashlar with stone slate roofs in a classical style, is built to a linear plan with a main range linked by colonnades and flanking pavilions. Well preserved in its original state, you can just imagine the period-costumed actors in its rooms or taking constitutional strolls through the estate’s 500-acre landscaped park, ornamented by a series of follies and avenues.
