Leeds

County Arcade, Victoria Quarter, Leeds

Yorkshire’s most go-getting city is Leeds, where tech start-ups mingle with craft beer brewers, students and thriving communities that have their roots in the Caribbean and Pakistan. Its lively bar scene, 19th-century riverside mills and striking Royal Armouries museum have all captured the attention of TV makers, and you may recognise facets of the city centre from productions including Ackley Bridge and Last Tango in Halifax.

A handful of Leeds’ most cherished drinking institutions have popped up on TV. Both Mojo’s, on pedestrianised Merrion Street, and the underground Domino Club make an appearance in Ackley Bridge. The Grade-II-listed Victorian Cardigan Arms pub near studenty Hyde Park was filmed in the 2018 Bollywood film Gold.

Beyond the nightlife, Leeds is also worth a look for its national museum of arms and armour, the Royal Armouries, which featured in Last Tango in Halifax, its heritage shopping arcades like the Corn Exchange and Victoria Quarter, and the regeneration area around Holbeck, where old mills and factory towers are being transformed into breweries, housing, bars and restaurants.
